Having a pretty smile is an integral part of an overall decent personality. However, yellow teeth have become increasingly common nowadays, due to which most of the people are struggling to maintain their healthy smiles. A yellow dentition can certainly turn a pleasant smile into an ugly one. This can definitely influence an individual’s self esteem.

You automatically get more conscious if you find out you have yellow teeth, and this is specifically true in cases where you are informed about your discolored teeth by someone else. If this has ever happened to you, you must be aware of that fact that it can be detrimental to your confidence, causing you to always hesitate before smiling.

One thing’s for certain, yellow teeth can be disastrous from a psychological perspective. Even though having discolored or yellow teeth may be a trivial issue, it certainly has telling effects on an individual. As such, it requires being taken seriously so that it can be cured and the confidence of the person can be restored.

The Natural Cause

There are several causes of yellow teeth. Some of the people tend to have yellow dentition naturally and in such cases there’s pretty much nothing that can be done. The teeth consist of a dentin layer and this is covered by an enamel layer. This layer forms the outermost part of your teeth. The whitish appearance of your teeth comes from the enamel. However, when the enamel is translucent and thin, this can give your teeth a yellowish look. This is because the dentin’s color is yellow. This is the natural cause of yellow teeth. Apart from this, there are several other causes.

Chromogenic Foods

Chromogenic foods tend to impart color to your teeth, resultantly staining them. Items such as coffee, wine, and tea lead to tooth discoloration. Apart from this, smoking can also cause stains on your teeth. The problem is certainly aggravated by a lack of healthy eating habits.

Poor Dental Hygiene

Poor dental hygiene is also one of the main causes of discoloration in your dentition. If you look after your teeth properly, you will certainly keep them white and healthy. However, if you neglect your oral health, this can lead to accumulation of tartar and plaque, which causes yellow teeth.

Aging

It is widely known that your teeth tend to lose their sparkling white appearance as you age. Over the course of time, the teeth lose their ability to keep the chromogenic agents away. Due to this, the chromogenic agents gradually start seeping in and this leads to yellowish teeth. Furthermore, aging also causes the enamel of your teeth to start wearing down. This further accentuates the yellow tinge on your teeth.
